Target - Black Beyond Measure

For her second and season 7 partnership with Google Creator Labs, Myesha Evon explored the external and internalization of criticism of the Black womxn’s body, and, ultimately, the power of acceptance through nurturing self-image and one’s personal identity.

The series was exhibited at SN37 Gallery alongside Gardner’s fellow season 7 participants and culminated with a panel discussion on “the Power of Community and Connection” led by Photo Vogue’s Alessia Glaviano.

Press included Vogue, V Magazine, Office, Paper, Essence, Surface, and Hyperallergic, among others.

Our Bodies, Ourselves

Project

Home Is Where The Honey Is

Myesha Evon’s first participation with the Google Creator Labs program, season 6, celebrates themes of perseverance amid adversity, familial structures and bonds, and community alliance within and among Black and Brown people from and in Myesha’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.

With “Home Is Where The Honey Is”, Myesha presents the complexities of Cleveland in a light that goes against its negative associations and uncomplimentary opinion, giving a lens to the intimacy, vulnerability, and beauty that exists in the everyday lives of her family, loved ones, and wider origin.

Project

TIANA UNCENSORED

Myesha Evon collaborated with New Studio (Brooklyn, New York) to host her first solo exhibition in support of “TIANA UNCENSORED”, “an alluringly provocative exploration of Black women’s sexual liberation through the expression of beauty, confidence, and self-worth. Tiana commands attention and respect through her feminine energy's opulent regality, embracing and celebrating her body as a source of power and personal proclamation.”

The limited edition newspaper-sized zine designed by New Studio is available for purchase here.

Project

4 GENERATIONS

Family is an ongoing theme in Myesha Evon’s work; for “4 Generations,” she turns the camera to the subject of her own lineage back home in Cleveland, Ohio. Here she examines the connections and intimacy between four generations of men, consisting of her younger brother, father (and uncle), grandfather, and great-grandfather.

[4 Generations is] “an ode to black fatherhood: your existence is a gift to the mothers, daughters, sons, sisters, and brothers who love you unconditionally. You are the nurturing light and tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. You are valuable, you are magnificent, and absolutely necessary.” — MYESHA EVON

Project

On My Momma

An ongoing project for Myesha Evon, “On My Momma” celebrates motherhood and the selfless love and dedication mothers have for their children, even in the face of adversity and sacrifice.
